Volkswagen was one of the first global manufacturers to confirm that it would be transitioning its entire range into fully electrified models with a final due date of 2030. It would do so via its young, fresh, and futuristic ID brand which is already operating in full swing in key markets. Despite being early to the industry, it has fallen on the back foot to some of its biggest competitors over the last few years. Brands like Chevrolet, Ford, and Hyundai have been rapidly gaining a large share of the EV market in the USA as they take the fight to Tesla. Volkswagen has been enjoying moderate success in the region, but its sales figures do not look too compelling next to these three companies.

On a global front, however, Volkswagen has been enjoying immense success with its range of EV vehicles. This is partly thanks to its ties with some of China’s largest carmakers. Volkswagen currently produces special vehicles for the Chinese region with the help of SAIC and FAW, both of which are partly owned by the Chinese government. Volkswagen does have big aspirations beyond the Chinese region. This has been seen with some of its latest releases via the ID brand, but looking toward 2030, it is expected that the German brand is going big with some special electric cars. This is every Volkswagen electric car coming before 2030.

Volkswagen is set to introduce the ID.7 sedan as an expansion of its electric line-up. This mid-size electric family sedan, measures close to its last-generation Passat and is inspired by the ID.Aero concept. The production model shows off an . Experts anticipate that the ID.7 will be launched in 2024 as a 2025 model-year. The ID.7 will be offered with rear- and all-wheel-drive electric options and a 300-mile range.

The cabin will play host to a 15.0-inch touchscreen and a head-up display. The ID.7 will be launched with a 282-horsepower rear-wheel-drive base trim level with a 0-60 mph acceleration claimed time of 5.0 seconds. Energy is to be sourced from a 77.0-kWh battery, which is expected to cover close to 300 miles per charge. An upsized 86.0-kWh battery might be reserved for a later, together with an increased power output.

The ID.7 GTX is still yet to be revealed as a performance derivative of the electric liftback sedan. This model will feature a dual-motor all-wheel drive system as used on the ID.4 and ID.5 GTX. A series of sporty design elements and a focus on efficiency and driving pleasure are the two main characteristics of this upcoming product. Volkswagen plans to give the world a first official look of this car at the IAA Mobility event in Munich this September.

The GTX will incorporate specific branding and an interior decorated with red contrast stitching on the seats, dash panel, and doors to accentuate a sporty demeanor. The Volkswagen ID.XTREME is more than just an off-roading package for the ID.4. This concept was revealed at the second International ID. Treffen in Locarno in September 2022. The ID.XTREME adds 87 horsepower to the ID.4’s system, which gives it a total output of 382 horsepower. VW was able to do this by adjusting the rear axle performance drive and drive control unit software. This modification grants the off-roading EV a 0-62 mph time of 5.3 seconds.

The electric off-roader benefits from a 1.2-inch ride height increase and a 0.8-inch track increase on both axles. Aluminum cladding shields the underbody, including the 77 kWh battery pack. Exterior features include an outdoor roof rack with LED lighting, while the interior showcases robust gray microfiber fabric upholstery and accent colors. The ID.XTREME may not reach production as seen here, but Volkswagen has strongly suggested that these parts will be introduced as accessories for the ID.4 range well before 2030.

The Volkswagen ID.Vizzion is an electric concept car that falls under the ID Project division. Initially, the brand planned for a production-ready model by 2022, but this was not met due to delays caused by COVID-19. The concept of this luxury sedan provides a glimpse of what driving will be like in 2030 with a focus on level 5 autonomy. This may not make it to the final production version. The Vizzion is expected to employ an all-wheel drive layout that will produce a combined 302 horsepower from a large 111-kWh battery pack. This is expected to grant it an electric range of up to 400 miles on the WLTP cycle.

The ID.Vizzion concept is equipped with sensors and a 360-degree camera with facial recognition to aid its autonomous capabilities. This technology may not be introduced by 2030, but it most certainly will be featured in VW products once Level Five technology is ready and approved for road users. Visually, the sedan is likely to maintain some design features such as integrated LED strips, minimalist analog dials, the futuristic heads-up display with voice control functions.

The ID.X Concept introduces a dedicated all-wheel drive electric VW hot hatch that will accompany the existing GTX range. Specific performance details are yet to be revealed, but it is known that the powertrain will be sourced from the ID.4 GTX. This ID.3 GTX will be based on the existing ID.3 hatch with better performance and poorer range claims, but the same battery options will be provided. This means the ID.3 GTX should still be eligible for a federal tax credit.

This performance model aligns with Volkswagen's commitment to enthusiast-oriented EVs and hints at the creation of a dedicated hot EV sub-brand. The concept promises a substantial performance boost, with a projected 329 horsepower output and features like Drift mode. The ID.GTX may not go into production as imagined by the concept car, but it clearly showcases what the German brand has planned for its performance division. An additional road-legal example that could bear the R badge is likely to be introduced after this.

A prototype of Volkswagen’s upcoming electric wagon has been spotted on numerous occasions as it plans for a 2024 market debut. Prototype modes are fully disguised, but these units give a clear enough look at what can be expected. The EV wagon is expected to employ the sedan's mechanics and some of its design cues to maintain consistency in the range. This means it should be offered in both rear-wheel drive and a more powerful dual-motor all-wheel-drive configuration.

The ID.7 Tourer is likely to feature a standard 77-kWh and optional 86-kWh battery pack with 200 kW fast charging. Not much has been revealed regarding the upcoming EV wagon’s exterior dimensions, but it is suspected to measure slightly longer than the sedan without any changes to the wheelbase. Increased cargo space is a given.

Volkswagen's ID.Life concept was unveiled at the Munich auto show as a glimpse into the brand’s forthcoming small EV model crossover. The production model is expected to be launched in 2025 as a city car and subcompact SUV blend. It will be driven by a 231-horsepower electric motor mounted to the front axle. Energy will be sourced from a 57.0-kWh battery pack that will be good for an estimated 249-mile range on the European WLTP cycle.

The ID.Life's textile and plastic air-pocket roof is removable for those wanting to feel the open air while driving, but it is doubtful whether this will make the final design. What may make it to the production model are the recycled materials found in the cabin. These are made using plastic bottles, natural rubber, rice husks, and wood chips. The configurable cabin may include front and second-row bench seats that transforms into a bed, cargo-maximizing mode, and entertainment settings for watching movies or gaming. This can only be accessed when the car is parked.

Volkswagen first showed the world its ID.2all concept earlier this year. This offers a glimpse of an affordable electric car that aims to be priced under $28,000. The production model is expected to come equipped with a front-wheel drive electric motor and an estimated range of 280 miles on the WLTP cycle. Convenience features will include Travel Assist, IQ.LIGHT, and an Electric Vehicle Route Planner.

The ID.2 will be constructed on the MEB Entry platform. The brand plans to launch this model in Europe by 2025. State-of-tune options will be limited to one 223-horsepower option. The car appears to be compact, but Volkswagen confirms that the ID.2 will accommodate a generous cargo volume of 17.3 cubic-feet.

The Volkswagen ID.1 will be the brand’s entry-level electric car offering that will undercut the likes of the Chevrolet Bolt and the upcoming Tesla Model 2. VW executives state that it will be inspired by the likes of the original Volkswagen Beetle and Polo with an attractive $20,000 starting price. This would make it one of the most affordable VW EVs.

It is understood that the ID.1 will slot in under the ID.2all concept and share similar dimensions to the existing Up! model. Volkswagen admits to experiencing challenges in achieving profitability at such a price point low price point. The brand will leverage economies of scale through its extensive manufacturing network across the world to make the ID.1 an economic reality.

Volkswagen had first teased Project Trinity in 2021 as a forthcoming electric sedan slated for production in Wolfsburg by 2028. This revolutionary EV sedan will introduce a new platform with advanced software, supply structure simplification, and an intelligent and networked production. Project Trinity aims to ramp up range, charging speed, and digitization. This model will also introduce the brand’s first Level Four autonomous driving technology. Volkswagen aims for this to be the best electric car it has made thus far.

Trinity will be available with Level Two Plus autonomous driving. Level Four automation will be introduced at a later stage. The Wolfsburg plant will showcase production methods that embrace digitalization, automation, and lightweight construction. All ID products that come after Trinity will feature standardized hardware and many functions that users can activate on-demand via the digital ecosystem within the vehicle. This software-centric approach aligns with Volkswagen's aim to create data-driven business models and offers attractive usage packages.
